I'm in love with software. The apps you tap every day, and embedded work too - no window, just code in the machine.
Ten years of this. Some of it inside billion-dollar companies. I still write the stuff myself.
Day job is platform work. Event systems, backend services, the tools other engineers run on.
I like to be close to the people who feel the pain. Client work, internal teams, production. I do not throw a ticket over a wall.
Stack follows the job. Go, Flink, Kafka when the pipe is fat. Java and Spring when that is the house. Agents when they make me faster. I still read the diff.
I own the HTTP client library the rest of the company talks through. Same for the async libs, and a projection pipeline that turns events into something you can query.
When those wobble, a lot of teams wobble with them. Go, Rails, MySQL, Redis, Kafka, Flink.
At Zenjob I owned the async communication. For Cambridge, a microservice around files and registrations. For the UK National Lottery I shipped a few Android screens. Not my house. I was not afraid of it.
Different houses, same job: sit with the problem, ship, stay. Java, Spring Boot, Go, Kotlin, Postgres, Kafka.
Ericsson 5G, IDUN and ECSON. I owned a handful of intermediate microservices that ordered jobs and services onto client clusters. Hundreds of services around that.
